147 jtd huge hissing noise - turbo overboosting
Having grief with my otherwise great 147 this morning. Went about 1.5 miles and car drove as normal, went to get onto m/way and floored it and all of a sudden a huge hissing whoosing noise occured sounded like a huge fan was on.
Car was also producing black smoke as the noise was happening.
On return (after gingerly easing along without using the turbo) inspected the car expecting to find a split hose or clip off somewhere but noticed that the huge hose from the intercooler to the inlet manifold / head was inflating to about +5mm in diameter when the turbo was boosting. Is this normal?
I know the turbo produces around 1bar pressure but is it normal for the pipes to swell so much?
I'm wondering if the noise is from a safety dump valve of some kind and the turbo is overboosting somehow.
Anyone have any ideas, i've not had a chance to get the car on a ramp yet and check the obvious earth bolt/ hose abrasion thingy so havent found the location of the noise?
Any help appreciated.
