Re: thinking of buying alfa gt diesel

I think if you have a search on this forum you will be able to pick up most of the information you require about good/bad points.

I think the cam belt change is due at 72,000 miles with a check at 60,000. Better to ask an expert though.

My main advice for a three year old car would be to give at a comprehensive test drive and, as it is coming out of warranty, have it mechanically checked (by an expert if you are not confident).

Hope this helps a little

Re: thinking of buying alfa gt diesel

hi - mine is just coming up to 3yrs and has been probably the best car ive owned - just makes you smile when you look at it/drive it. there have been a few issues, but no more than other supposedly more reliable cars that ive owned. here is the list:

.windows - have a mind of their own -seemed to calm down after a few soft resets though
.radio -died a few times - but replaced ok
.turbo inlet pipe -holed by screw head - finally replaced ok
.reverse gear - wont engage cleanly - still ongoing.......

the last one is easy to check - just try enaging reverse a few times - mine fights you for a few attempts and then sort of half comes into gear - have had clutch and now master cylinder replaced under warranty - still at dealers so not sure if last job fixed it

BUT - these items shouldnt put you off - i owned a few old alfas years back (suds), and waited year to buy a new alfa that was going to be good but with less isues than the Suds (rust!) - the GT is the car
