IIRC you'll need some Torx head Allen keys to undo the securing bolts. There is a little plastic cover that you need to remove in order to un-bolt the whole arm rest unit from the centre console.
As for dismantling the various elements, I think that most of the screws are covered by the inner liner and other plastic caps. I just experimented removing things until they revealed screws or snaps.
My problem is the opposite to yours in that the various notches that allow you to change the position of the rest don't engage so it always sinks to the lowest setting as soon as I lean on it!
I dismantled the whole lot to see if there were broken teeth on the racket mechanism. Couldn't fix it though.
