156 2.0TS Poor idle and fuel consumption
Hi all, I hope some technical wizz might be able to help me out with some advice. I have just purchased a 2000 registered (W reg) 156 2.0 TS (not my first Alfa by any means!!) & have a problem with poor idleing. It seems to variate between 900-1500 rpm sometimes it hunts up & down, & othertimes just sits somewhere between the two. Apart from looking like a proper fool at traffic lights etc with engine hunting I wonder if its damaging my mpg too. I mention this as I am aware that if I wanted good mpg I should have bought something sensible!! its just it is using a rather obscene amount of fuel. Whilst driving today the idle has sat at 1200 all the time almost like an auto choke is on?? I have also started to notice a slight misfire under acceleration, but clears itself with a good lung full of the load pedel. The car has 57,000k and a good service history inc cambelt etc..
I have read about the wire trick on back of speedo, could this be the same thing?? Any idea's any imput greatfully recieved Thanks Paul
