Cam Phase Sensor

Being an idiot, i've managed to slightly buckle a metal timing tab on the exhaust cam wheel on my 147 during a cambelt change. This has then hit the cam phase sensor and damaged it. My car comes up with P0340 cam phase sensor error. I've straightened out the tabs on the wheel but the error is still there. The car drives fine as far as I can tell.

I need to use it this weekend to drive to Cornwall. Will it be ok to drive with the engine management on? I assume the ECU will just use the crank sensor instead?

Re: Cam Phase Sensor

I would have thought that you would have been ok, but there may be a slight performace drop.

I know of someone who has run his car for a few thousand miles with a failed cam sensor.

Re: Cam Phase Sensor

I know this is an old thread, but I'd just like to add that I'm getting intermittent P0340 errors and the management light coming on. Real pain as I only had the cambelt changed in the summer ... he says swearing quietly under his breath

Performance feels OK .. I've got a dodgy lambda I think and that's what's causing that (I've got an old NTK!!)

Re: Cam Phase Sensor

Think this is what went on mine. I think.

(I know it's not the same engine, but...)

Hardly noticed it. Very very slight stuttering
when cruising at speed and lack of power under
3500 rpm.

It finally gave up the ghost and put the car into
"Check Engine" mode.
