Re: Big end rattle?
If the rattle is the big ends, then it will be worse when hot. If you rev the engine up to 4000 rpm or so, hold the revs steady and then lift off the accelerator big end noise should be evident as you lift off. Ways to describe it vary between something like a loose bolt rattling around in the bottom of the engine, or a pair of coconut shells being smacked together. It depends on how bad it is.
Metal particles will most likey be evident in the oil as well.
Unfortunately the presence of a service history doesn't mean that the big ends are automatically ok as some of these engines use a fair bit of oil, and require topping up between services if damage is to be avoided.
If it has been run low and the light has come on then damage has probably already occurred.
If you do have big end issues the problem will get worse very quickly, probably over the space of a few miles, so your 12 month warranty should be ok.
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
