A3 2.0T Quattro @ 200BHP - I doubt it
If you had gone from a high powered 147 @ 250bhp...the performance decline would be noticeable, A3's don't have the same quick steering/agility of the 147/156/GT base.
My friends with new german cars have had considerably more problems than my 7 year old Alfa (oh and the two 156's I had before that, and the GT)
It sounds like you bought an abused 147, then became surprised when it failed. I mean how on earth did your handle fall off?, lol, they are so unbelievably solid, obviously the result of a previous bodge repair. If you repaired the handle on a bullet proof Mercedes 190 and didn't bolt the handle back on properly, its going to fall off.
New Mercedes are rusting after 12 months, BMW/Mercedes having big issues with car electronics, BMW having problems with VANOS system, Audi still having problems with coil packs and various electronic failures...and I barely know all the problems with new german cars...check the Audi Sport forums.......
German reliability is a bit of a myth, japanese reliabilty on the other hand is a different story.
PS: Some common things to watch out for on the new A3
Radiator leaks a common problem after 18 months. Can lead to head gasket failure and failure of head itself. If buying used, check expansion tank.
Fresh spate of ignition coil failures on 2005 build 2.0 FSIs.
Dual mass flywheel and clutch problems possible after around 40k miles. If still under 3 year warranty Audi will replace FOC, as is a known problem.
