Secondly ive read on the forums about somethin called salespeed and still dont understand what exactly it is, can someone tell me what it is in simple terms??

Re: 2 simple questions

Your 1.6 won't be a Selespeed. These semi-automatic gearboxes were only offered with the 2.0 engine. Avoid, as these truely were another clever gizmo that could go wrong.

What sort of journeys are you making? 27mpg is not worryingly low. Especially if you are doing a lot of stop-start and town driving, or if you live in a quite hilly part of the country. Holidaying in Cornwall once, all I got was 24mpg.

Drive as smoothly as possible, avoid agressive acceleration and deceleration, car share if possible, get the bus, buy a diesel, shop around for cheaper fuel, use a credit card with cash back or money off fuel etc etc

Non of the above really get the pulse racing but that what to do if you want to save your fuel bill.

Re: 2 simple questions

Selespeed is a semi automatic gear box with paddleshift controls on the steering wheel with the option of a full automatic mode at the touch of a button. When it works it works well. When it does not, well thats a different story.

The 1.6 I owned returned 36-38MPG with a mixture of town and motorway driving.

Re: 2 simple questions

Seles' are fine imo. it's often the owners lack of knowledge that's at fault. In fact the Sele' does slightly better mpg than the manual transmission, purportedly, so get a good one you'll be quids in.:

Re: 2 simple questions

I got average of 37.8 mpg over all driving for the last two years. 27mpg when towing a caravan.
After a recent plug change the MPG has jumped up to 40.3 .
Just changed the cambelt so will see if that makes a difference.
I try for steady driving and use cruise control on motorways unless it is very busy.
