147 JTD and Potential Problems

Hello – this is my first posting.

I have been looking at purchasing an Alfa 147 for some time. However, I would appreciate some help. Considering the continued rise in fuel I am hoping to buy the 1.9 JTD, however, is there much difference between the 8 valve and the 16?

Finally what are the problem areas to look for?

Many thanks

Re: 147 JTD and Potential Problems

Oh yes....hang in for a JTDm 16v engine - 150bhp as opposed to 120bhp. Bit of a no brainer in my humble opinion. Having driven both there is a definite benefit to having those extra horses - especially combined with the 6speed box on the JTDm.

But I'm biased.

Re: 147 JTD and Potential Problems

Sadly I've got the 8v ph1 and it goes pretty well considering, admittedly in a proper race you'll lose to more powerful cars but most people give up at 90ish and mine does 135 on the clock with no mods!. It can however be upgraded to nearly 150 bhp and the q2 diff so all is not lost and it's a much nicer looking car than the ph2 imho!
