temp rising

i have a 156 v6, i have noticed the temp has been climbing to about 95-97 deg lately when in traffic. the car never overheats and even though the fans kick in as they should the temp will only drop back down if i can get the car up to 40 -50 mph for a mile or two(not easy living in croydon).the car is fine at motorway speeds if anything dropping down to about 75-80 deg.i have looked through previous posts on this kind of subject and from what i have read it appears it is most likely the radiator at fault.i have looked it over and from what i can see of it,it seems ok apart from from an area just above the fans
where the fins seem weak and in this area is a 4to6 cm area where the fins collapsed as i ran my fingers along them. my question is this is that amount of damage likely to be the cause of the cars temp rise.i would just like another opinion before i look to replace the rad.thanks for reading

Re: temp rising

Usual issue is the fins collapsing and blocking airflow.
Time for a new rad.

If your temperature is dropping below 85 once moving you may be looking at a new stat as well as a rad.

Re: temp rising

I'll second that, this is definately a new stat and rad replacement job, the temp guages on 156s lie anyway but a variation of that degree means that the stat is stuck open too.
