Re: High Fuel Consumption
Again, this rings bells with me
smoke at 2500 revs + increase in deisel usage was my experince last year. I didn't do anything right away and then the computer threw a hissy fit at me on the motorway and stopped the engine. I was able to restart it but I had coverage so I called for a tow just in case. The garage told me that it's some air inlet valve failure and it's common on Alfas at 100-120k km. Cost 125 Euro to fix, which irritated me as I'd sooner see that on the service list if it's such a common fault with not so high a cost.
My alfa is generally rock solid at 8l/100 although since the last service I have noticed an increase both in power (or at least smoothness, a flat spot in the power band has gone) and in fuel consumption so to get 8l/100 for my daily commute I need to drive at 120km/h (actually this gives nearer 7.5) and be a little lighter on the accellerator away from lights
