Alfa GT 1.9JTD '54 reg - xenon headlight automatic beam alignment
in the past week I've occasionally been getting 'flashed' by oncoming drivers on the motorway - a new occurrence after 9k miles of driving my Alfa.
The car has xenon headlights and automatic beam leveling. Normally, when starting the car and turning on the dipped beams at night, the xenons come on with the beam visibly raising up then lowering slightly - I guess the effect of the automatic beam leveling kicking in.
In the past week, the beam just comes on with no apparent movement up or down. I am assuming that the position it is in is now a tad too high, hence occasionally dazzling other motorists (although it seemed absolutely fine last night).
Does anyone have any top tips about what I should check to get the auto-leveling working again? It might be relevant (or not!) but I changed the nearside front sidelight a few weeks back with much swearing and scrapping of knuckles, but I didn't touch the xenon bulb or fittings. I have taken off the black plastic bulb cover to check that I haven't dislodged any connections and all seems ok. Both xenons come on, as do all the other lights and no warning lights flick up on my dashboard either. I have checked all the fuzes and they are intact.
Any ideas, anyone?
All help gratefully received.
P.S. In another 3k miles the GT is due its 48k service (having done 45k by then). Main dealer wants £450 for this - seems excessive to me. SDR Autos in Wadhurst, Kent offered £246 (incl. VAT), which seems much more appropriate especially given I do just under 25k per year and will need more than one service. Anyone had any experience of SDR?
