Many thanks for all the advice...a quick update:
Called the RAC man first thing this morning who came within 15mins. His check confirmed eveything suspected as previously stated - battery voltage is under 12V and seen gradually losing, reving the engine did not bring it up to 14 either..all connections checked and wire-brushed. That eliminates all but one thing - alternator.
But RAC man is helpful, he called up a local garage nearby he recommends and then got that chap out from his bed on a bank holiday monday, who is now going to take care my car but would only be able to get the alternater replacement tomorrow at the earliest and would set me going back home till then.
Well i would have to extend my weekend break ...seeing this still seems to be the most sensible option to do, rather than being stranded on the motorway somewhere (and my RAC cover doesn't stretch to the level that would tow me over such distance either....)
My car has only done 30K....bit premature for the alternator to pack in I would think, or not?? How did that happen? There were no signs previously at all, never had any trouble starting the car or any problems whatsoever insofar I've owned this car, which i still think is as reliable as any other makes!
Good thing i got my laptop with me and getting on this forum been an extremely handy thing to do! Only have to call in work and tell the office my alfa broke down so can't be back in time (although somehow kind of expected what colleagues gonna make fun on my pride and joy...out of jealousy more like let's say!
