156 rear suspention

just bought a 156 sportwagon , the rear sits a bit low , looks like weight in the back when empty so i guess the springs are a bit tired also one shock a bit wet , need to know if the shocks are universal throughout the 156 range also some one said the gt ones fit ? one more thing are they easy to change or is it a trip to nearest garage , dont mind trying my self as long as i know how to do it . cheers Adrian

Re: 156 rear suspention

Sportwagons had the option of self-levelling rear suspension which consisted of different self contained rear spring-damper units.

So you need to workout if you have those or not.

If not, then the springs & dampers are the same as the 156 saloon.

Re: 156 rear suspention

Don't attempt it. Honestly, it's really not worth the aggro. Logically it's easy, but I'd be suprised if everything comes off. Finished doing my front shocks + springs earlier today. Moved to the back - looks 100 times simpler but everything is seized. Typical Alfa Romeo !
