Help Fuel injection warning light is always on and I'm losing power

I recently bought a 156 2.5l v6 and it's giving me problems. Any advice would be appreciated.

I bought the car in December and there were no signs of a problem. A couple of days later the engine started to stutter within a few minutes of driving it but then it would be fine. I left the country for 3 months and in that time it was driven a couple of times a week. When I came back I was told that the fuel injection warning light was coming on.

It was due for a service and so that was pretty much it's first trip. During the hour long drive the fuel injection warning light went off and so I thought the the problem may have been to the car not having been driven much and not serious. I informed the guy at the garage but he couldn't find a problem.

However, the stuttering then got worse within a couple of days (3 weeks ago now). A few days ago the fuel injection light came back on again and comes on, and stays on every time I drive it. I now get anything from a bit of a stutter every now and then to serious loss of power and close to a stall. Couldn't get more than 35 mph going up a hill yesterday.

Taking it back to the garage on monday but I'm not full of confidence about their ability to track down the problem as they didn't give it much thought the first time and put the problem down to spark plugs.

Any help gratefully received.

It might be a dying MAF sensor. Can you get it over 4,000rpm, either while driving or at idle? (only try with a warm engine)

You are prety close to Cp garage services who is an Independant Alfa Specialist, without doubt I can thoroughly recommend him to sort you out.
If you are at home in St Andrews this w/e then you can have a word with him at Scottish Italian Day at Craigton Park which I am sure you will know.
In The meantime your problem does sound like a MAF problem not too serious , but he will put a diagnostic to your car , just mention my name Patrick Cox and take it from there.
Italian Day Sun 25TH.
Cheers Pat

Any chance it could be a fuel filter blockage - symptoms sound like this to me. The diagnostics will determine if fuel pressure is a problem. good luck...
