Ok hereís the thing. I really want to get my air-con working especially as weíre beginning to get the hot weather. Iíve tried a number of things but still no joy
Checked fuse Ė ok
Checked Relays - ok
Had re-gas and pressure test- Everything worked fine for about 2 minutes then no cold air again. I thought this might indicate a leak but the bloke at Kwik Fit said there was nothing obvious and that the system was holding pressure (not sure how in-depth his check was though).
My local Alfa specialist has checked that the compressor works by supplying a current directly and it all worked fine so magnetic clutch is ok, compressor ok. Attached his diagnostic equipment which showed no faults at all. However one of the ECUís is not supplying an earth to the relay so it wonít automatically kick in.
I thought it might have been the pressure switch but he seemed to think that was ok too.
Now the funny thing is that when I first got the car 6 months ago everything worked perfectly. However I took it back to the garage to remove a phone cradle and associated gubbins which I didnít want. The phone cradle sat directly next to the climate controls and Iím wondering if they could have left something dis-connected when they put everything back. I certainly noticed afterwards that the stereo wasnít quite up to scratch as speakers occasionally cut out indicating some sort of loose connection perhaps. Also they may have dis-connected the battery when doing this - could that have had an effect on something?
I may be clutching at straws here but I just canít work out what it may be. It could be something as simple as a refrigerant leak and the low pressure therefore wonít engage the compressor.
On the other hand could it be a fault with the climate control panel itself or perhaps the pressure switch being faulty.
If anyone has any ideas Iíd love to hear from you. Since writing this the weather has typically cooled somewhat but on the off-chance that we get a nice summer Iíd still like to sort it.
Have a great weekend!
