My unbiased opinion (having owned both brands) is the BM is the better car. If you want the whole package such as cost of ownership, reliability, performance you can't go far wrong.
So whats in it for the Alfa then ? Look at the forum and all you see are problems, some really bad ones.
But like most Dieselheads will agree, this does not rule the Alfa's out - but why ?
The answer comes down to the fact that you want one - or you wouldn't be here, but how much unreliability and cost are you willing to put up with in return for the looks ?
I've always considered Alfa's as second cars I mean, a new Twin spark engine cambelt every 36K miles is a joke in this day and age and its not as if the Twinspark engines are any more highly tuned than a Zetec. So why the extra servicing ? Was it designed to work ?
Still, good to know the diesels are more rubust though.
