147 JTD Buying Advice
I am on the hunt for a new car that is economical, looks ace, drives well, meets the approval of my other half and is most importantly reliable.
I do around 20K mile a year commuting the same journey on the motorway everyday. The current VW Lupo, although economical really isn't up to the job. I brought it on the idea of getting great VW reliability BUT, after failed cambelt tensioner at 38K then two broken pedal boxes (failed welds), worn out clutch at 68K and numerous electrical faults I am less than impressed. That is all in less than two years of ownership. Add onto that expensive servicing, paint defects (fixed under warranty) and arguments with dealers, I have had enough.
A friend lent me his 147 1.6 Lusso a while back for a weekend and I loved it in everyway so am contemplating the JTD multijet due to the rather good second hand prices and impressive fuel economy/power.
I have discounted the BMW 1 and 3 series after asking advice on BMW forums so I would like some honest advice and opinions from Alfa Owners.
What are dealers like? VW are not the most welcoming.
Known faults? Common problems? Little niggles? Cost of repairs? Best trim levels to go for? Things to avoid?
