Don't understand egr

I have learned on these forums that I may have an egr valve problem. I thought I would try the following test but do not understand the result:

Disconnected the egr valve electric connector with following result:
1. No warning lamp on the dash - should there have been ?
2. Performance of the car did not change at all.

I am now confused.

If the egr was working OK and I disconnect it - should I see some kind of change, either better or worse ?

As there was no change in performance does this prove that my problem (no torque below 2500 rpm) is not egr related ?

Would it still be worth capping off the egr valve as a further test ?

Any advice appreciated as I am really struggling to understand my problem.

Re: Don't understand egr

not a good idea to just disconnect it, the ecu will wonder why there is no voltage reading.

If the cars got a few miles on it then just cap it off properly, diesel vac pipe for butterfly also, don't use coke can as a perm fix.
