Drunk Rubbing noise and not starting first time.

Hi i ve just got my alfa 156 2.0 ts and i have to say i love the car even though ive only had it a few days, great drive and super looks, but theres a few niggles with the car as i expected getting a second hand car.
1st:-Theres a rubbing noise coming from the passenger side of the car i ve checked the tyres theres no rubbing of the tyres and i cannot feel anything rubbing on the wheel i m no mechanic and dont pretend to be but i m thinking it has something to do with the brake pads?.
2nd:-The car doesnt want to start at the first turn of the key and when turning the key the red light flickers on the temp gauge if anyone has any ideas it would be great to here from you, but as it is i can live with turning the key a few time but if it gets worse it will be a trip to the doctors for the alfa i think.
If i could get these probs ironed out i have one hell of a car, this car is a huge step up for me as the last two cars i have owned were a nova then a Hyundai, please forgive me for my sins.
