Re: Camshaft Variator Soleniod??
I have just been to the garage again having driven the car today and it's driving really badly and the ngine management light is back on. They said they plugged the car into the machine and it showed 3 lambda fails which indicates the variator problem. They said the variator failing is really common, especially in models around 2001 and causes oil to be pushed into the wiring of the car, they're also saying I may need a new coil if it can't be cleaned up. The end of the lambda they took out was covered in oil as was the coil hence the diagnosis of the variator problem.....
Ok, so the symptoms today are:
fine when initially starts up but after only a minute or so when idling the car shudders like it's going to stall but doesn't stall. Also after this minute or so the car really struggles to pull on low revs, almost didn't get going at a roundabout on the way home. Won't pull at low revs at all, even in higher gears. Gererally sluggish as anything and drives really poorly. No odd noises, yet anyway...
Popped it into said garage and they said this is what they would expect with the fault, 10 minute job £200 part. It's an independent alfa specialist garage, really good blokes but I am a bit confused why it's only doing this poor performance and shuddering since they replaced the lambda sensor yesterday (the long wired one post CAT)
Does any of this make any sense to anyone?
Thanks so much for the input!
