147 Engine Tapping Noises
Long story short!
On Saturday morning I had my car jacked up on one side on a slight hill replacing a top arm and drop link. I finished that job and moved the car 10 metres into the parking spot outside the house.
It's always parked with the nose facing up a slope.
I go to start the car today (Monday) and nothing, just a starter motor spinning around, I started to brick it as I thought it was the belts again (i've had stripped teeth and minor engine damage before).
After a few goes starting it, I gave up and read a few forum posts about it. As i've got a bit of a misbehaving starter motor in the first place I did some reading about that and read somewhere about the fuel cut off switch.
Bingo! switched it back, after a few attempts it's circulating the fuel and the engine started.
Now heres the problem, remember how old Ford's have noisy tappets, well, it sounds like that between 1k and 2k RPM. I took it for a short drive as I think the tappet has no oil in it? hence the noises.
The noises stop on an idle or if I go over 2,500RPM.
Does this sound like a reasonable explanation? When I parked it on the Saturday I had no noises.
Hopefully that description makes sense!
Note to self, change cambelt.
