Hmmm Engine plate

Right I havent got a clue if this is what its called but bascialy its the metal plate just below the oil dipstick on a 147.
Its got a metal hand printed onto it..
What i need to know is! mine has broken and its causeing it to rattle more than a 1yr old with a temper and i need a replacement.
Does anyone know a rough estimate on howmuch thingymajiger will set me back?
Also will it cause any problems if i remove the 4 bolts and take the thing off completly?

Re: Engine plate

Hi there,

They crack all the time, i've been through 2 so far. It's about 20 last time i got one. I've taken it off in the past with no effects but i would get a new one.

Re: Engine plate

ive taken it off 5 days ago..
cracked in 3 pieces

whats the point having it btw?

is it to protect the manifold from water [hot/cold] so i buy a new one after august..

or is it to protect the general area from the temperature? including water contact with the manifold

Re: Engine plate

its to protect your delicate hands from the dangerously hot engine, and also to protect the front of the engine and exhaust pipes(i think) from stones etc, but providing your undertray is still there i cant see the point.
just replaced mine last week and the car sounds so much better, cant imagine how they crack though!

think it cost £13 and a bit(156)? i could be wrong, but fit it yourself, i dimly asked my indy to do it and realised i could have saved £££ from the labour charge and do it in 5mins myself!
