I have a service sheet from Gonnella Brothers, dated 1st April, saying my car was starting itself! April Fool???
Surely not! Have a look at the attachment! Although I wasn’t there to see it for myself, my 147 was apparently trying to start up all on its own, with no keys in the ignition!
It all began when I had trouble starting the car: The starter motor sounded like it was spinning freely but not engaging the engine. Occasionally it fired but it got worse and I called out the AA. I wasn’t best impressed with the bump start they gave me and the advice to find a local garage… on a Saturday afternoon… when everywhere was closed!
I drove to a couple of local ones but all were shut. I phoned the Gonnella Brothers in Catford who were still open. They said they’d fit it in for me on the Tuesday, April 1st, so I drove it down, there and then to leave in their garage over the weekend.
Apparently, when they opened shop on Monday morning, my 147 was trying to start itself!
They replaced the starter motor and since then I’ve had no probs at all. But they were very sincere when telling me not to leave it in gear when parked in case it happened again!
Can anyone explain???
