Re: How does a 1.8TS compare when you're used to a 2.0TS?
the 1.8 feels revvier because the pistons have a shorter throw. power and torque is so similar that perofrmance wise you wont really notice any difference. for example there is less than half a second difference 0-60.
why did they bother making the 2.0? to compete with all the other 2.0 cars. the 1.8 has more power than most of the 2.0 engines used by competitors, but people are so obsessed with engine capacity that the 1.8 had to be modifed to make a 2.0 just to stay competitive. modifying the engine to 2.0 ruined its balance, so they had to add the balance shaft and belt.
personally i think they should have modifed the 2.0 20v 5cyl engine (its great!) to make a twinspark version (with 10 plugs!). the 20v has 155bhp as standard, so with a twinspark head you would expect 185hp (when you consider the fiat 1747 lump produces 113bhp and the TS version 144bhp). then the 2.0 would have been a worthwhile addition to the range. problem with that is it makes the v6 look a bit pointless.
