Most people here would recommend a decent 10w-40 semi synthetic, such as Valvoline Longlife, Texaco Havoline Extra, Castrol Magnatec etc.
As long as its a good brand and is at least API SL spec it will be ok.
The reason Alfa specified 10w-60 is because many Alfa engines burn oil, which led to people running their cars low on oil and damaging engines. Using a thicker oil helps slow consumption.
Personally I would rather stick with the thinner stuff and check the oil every week.
All of my Alfa's cars were run on 5w-40 fully synthetic as I believe the lower cold rating helps protect the engine when it is first started. I have never had a problem with this.
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
