Re: Knock Knock Knocking on heavens door...
Hi, this is my first post so I apologise if this has been answered elsewhere.
Is there an easy way to check possible things that have worn out or broken.
I've had a knocking noise on the passenger side (or at least thats what it sounds like) for several months, but due to it being cold and grim I havn't done much about it...
any way, a coule of weeks ago I found that the upper wishbone on that side coud be moved if I grabbed it and rocked it backwards and forwards (or side to side in relation to the car). Aha I thought, thats obviously the problem. I ordered a pair of uppers and a set of new roll bar drop links (thank god I did as I mullered the old one trying to get the old one undone - 3 hours to undo to nuts !!).
So far i've only changed one side, and intend replacing the drivers side as a matter of course.... but.. the knocking noise still remains.
It's intermittant, which sticks me as strange, but is deep clonking noise which I swear I can feel through the floor. My wife can hear it but thinks I'm mad when I say I can feel it.
Is there anything else that can cause this that I should be looking at ?
If I rock the car when it's stationary there are no noises, and over speed bumps it doesn't knock, but if you get a pattery road (anyone living in south oxfordshire should know what I mean !) it does it.
Of course if I jack the car up, everything goes tight and I can't detect any play.
Could it be the bearings / bushes etc in the lower wishbone ?
On thing I will say is that last year, I was forced into the kurb by an oncoming driver who was too busy yapping into her mobile to notice that she was on the wrong side of the road..... so I'm sure the knocking stems from then.
