Re: new owner to alfa romeo
thanks for your response, I am working offshore now and have not had a chance to get back to this site, apart from help it great to see whats going on!
I had a good play before I left and followed the elearn wiring diagram for the car and learned quite a bit just by testing with my trusty meter and following the circuits.
I have replaced the unit twice and get the same symtoms and voltages both times, thought the first replacement was faulty also.
The problem I am having is that I am always getting cold air, thought the mixer flap was not working or the heater was u/s (felt the heater block, hot!,) I am also found out that I am getting no control on the air distrubution, no matter what position I put it at I am getting the same air out at all points therefore its not directing ( dist control actuator).
both these actuators are controled via a stepping motor while the other actuator for internal air is just a straight motor moved by positive or negitive reveral of supply, works fine
I have checked my 3 temperature sensors and the read more or less the same voltage for around the 15degrees it was that day. I am getting supply to the stepping motor and also getting feedback of the feed back potentiometer going back into the control unit. Both actuators are reading same motor voltage and feedback which makes me think they are in the closed or fully off position.
Its a 2001 156 1.6ts with air con, the one with the 3 dials. In the manual it states when replacing the control unit you have to 'teach' the actuator its position but I was thinking this was the new digital type. certainly opening up the unit I did not see any memory back up ( batteries) so i thought this unit would not need it or you would have to do this every time you disconnect the main battery?
I would like to know if anyone else had the same problem and do I need to take this to a garage to plug into a diagnostic unit to 'teach' the actuators
Great car and I love it, i always wanted one but her indoors is getting cold and its taken the shine of it
thanks for your reply and can you help
