You might want to think about getting a decat pipe made up, instead of forking out for a new cat. Then at least the car is drivable..
In the meantime, you can scour scrapyards and breakers for a working cat to put on your car for MOT time. New ones aren't cheap, but you probably already knew that.
As David C says - something is wrong, which is causing the cat to fail. You don't want to replace it without first sorting the problem out. So I would strongly suggest a decat pipe for the time being..
There should be something you can do with the post-cat lambda to ensure smooth running of the car without a cat in. I take it your car is an EU3 not an EU2 model?
