It's your thermostat sticking open, won't be that big a problem now summer is coming as a working thermostat will be open anyway.
Common problem, a pattern part will probably be around £30, and if the 1.9 is anything like the 2.4 - get a garage to fit it, mine was a fiddly and painful job. I estimate about an hour but maybe more on your motor.
You can establish if it's a faulty gauge by taking her for a run then letting the engine idle on a warm day with the bonnet down and the climate on cool but without a/c, it'll reach 90 in under 30 mins, and shortly after that, your fan will cut in.
As for your fan, if it helps, mine has only cut in twice since my new thermostat in February.
