156 ignition switch

Today I had to call out the AA because of the ignition switch. The key goes in fine but wouldn't turn to start the engine. The AA man blasted it with duck oil and wiggled it for a few minutes then it started. It still needs a wiggle every time I want to start up.
If I get a switch with key off ebay or from Alfa is it going to be a problem with keys/transponders etc.
I don't want to have to use 2 keys but I want to get a new ignition switch. I don't understand codes and transponders too well. Perhaps someone could explain to me about them and also what options are available to sort this problem.
Thanks in advance

Re: 156 ignition switch

Is it the steering lock preventing you from turning the key? I don't think you can just start changing key barrels, as the key is coded to the car's ECU or codebox or something.

Someone more knowledgeable might be able to tell you for sure but I don't think it would be a simple swap..
