Jug or others may no better than I , but as Jug said, I don't think a worn thrust bearing is an essential repair. It'll just get louder and louder and ultimately fail without causing damage to any parts that you'd need to replace anyway.
What I'm trying to say, is that as long as you don't mind a possible unexpected break-down then drive it until the noise gets on your nerves.
I had a vauxhall and covered over 30k with a noisey thrust bearing - and still managed to sell it on at auction!
