Very clear oil or optical illusion

I nearly had a heart attack last night when I checked my oil level as it looked like none was in there!

When I checked a second time I noticed that in fact there was oil, and up to the max level, but it was almost invisible it was so clear. I had to hold the dipstick up to the light to make out the level.

I only picked the car up 2 weeks ago and it had just been serviced so I expected the oil to be clean and fresh.... but it was very, very light.

The fact that the dipstick material is a bright blue metallic surface doesn't help - particularly when checking under artificial light.

Is the recommended oil for Alfas a particularly clear light oil? I am more used to seeing even brand new oil looking more like golden syrup than what's in there now.

Re: Very clear oil or optical illusion

It doesn't normally stay that way for long, usually a week or so after an oil change it's got a few more carbon deposits.

I guess all modern semi or fully synths are pretty clear when fresh.

My car oil recently replaced with Selenia was a nice clear colour too.
Clear oil is a nice sight - rather than the dark gunge you get when it's well worn in.

clear oil after 2 weeks means a clean engine and very little loss to crankcase at the piston rings. thats a very good sign. the longer it stays clean the better.
