Thumbs Up GT windscreen washers - quality problem

Last week, one of my xenon headlights stopped working - turned out to be a fuse. A few days later, the windscreen washers stopped working. I suspected a fuse again but this was ok. I listened carefully and could hear the pump operating but no water coming out of the jets. I did see some dribbles of water coming up through the join between the bonnet and guard though - interesting!!!!

I lifted the bonnet and ran the pump again. Water was gushing everywhere at the back RHS of the engine compartment. Closer inspection revealed the washer hose leading to the washer jets was completely perished and split open in a number of places. As this car is only 3 years old, I was amazed that the hose could perish so badly in that time.

I replaced the original "coiled" hose with a piece of good quality rubber washer hose and all is now well (you need to remove/replace the rubber block at the back corner - this is not glued in). If you need to do this job to your car, attach the new straight rubber hose to the RHS bonnet strut with a zip tie so that it doesn't get caught when you shut the bonnet.

Good luck!

Re: GT windscreen washers - quality problem

i've heard of these failing a fair bit in alfa's (147/156/GT). and an origial replacement is more expensive than you may expect.

sounds like a good job you've done.
