Wife wants a 147

Since buying my 156 my wife has found her Honda Civic joyless (which it is!!!) Sooooooo going to see a 02 147 1.6 TS Turismo tomorrow. Any advice on what to lookout for on test drive and before?

The main thing would be a full or good service history, esp timing belt at 36k miles and then at 72k as well. If it's been driven hard other things like wishbones may need looking at, and also check all the electrical stuff is working (window washers front and rear, air con is cold, lights etc), and make sure there are no warning messages on the dash when starting up.

Alfas are great if regularly maintained properly, but can be expensive if not.

Of course she'll have to like the colour!!

just picked a 147 ts lusso up for my wife very nice motor fingers crossed it will stay that way

Obviously look for a full service history, either main dealer or specialists. A few simple checks you can make are have a look at the oil level. This is critical on twinspark engines. If its low then walk away. Another thing is to start the engine from cold and listen for a diesel like rattle. If its does rattle then the timing variator needs replacing.

Have a look for evidence of a cambelt change as this is an expensive job on any alfa.
