Random Starting Problem - Suspect It Could Be Battery???
I have recently purchased a 156 which had been stood for a few months as the previous owner was no longer using it.
When I went to see it the car started ok, the second time I went to see it we had to jump start it as the battery was low.
Now I have the car and this morning I went to start it and all though it turned over ok (at least sounded ok) it wouldn't actually fire. My neighbour helped me out and advised I shouldn't jump start as it can damage Alfa's in some way and so I charged the battery up using his fancy battery charger which only takes an hour.
I put the battery in and tried to start it again. It turned over a few times but again wouldn't fire. I left it 30 seconds and then tried again and it started up fine.
I have taken it out for a spin. When I got back I turned the engine off and then turned it over again and it started up fine. I then left it an hour and tried again. Again it turned over but wouldn't fire and again I left it 30 seconds and tried again and again it started fine.
The battery looks like the original one to me and I have no problem replacing this as it is cheap to do and I can change it myself.
What do my fellow members think of this problem?
Shall I go ahead and buy a new battery??
