Clutch pedal free movement

The free movement of my clutch pedal seems to be increasing!!

By this, I mean the amount of movement you get before any real spring pressure and certainly before the clutch disengages.

The pedal pad seems to go down about 1" now against light spring pressure. I only really noticed it yesterday when my wife critisised me for a couple of particularly dodgy gear changes. I blamed the clutch (as you would) and then thought about it all the way home. I don't remember the "free play" being this great even last week, let alone when the car was new.

I would be interested in other GT JTS owners comments on this before I decide to get the tools out. Is an inch of free play normal?

Re: Clutch pedal free movement

I can't imagine that is correct? Take her in, or go for the pedal linkage first, see it moves the rod directly, and then head for the hydraulics? May be a problem that lies in the bell housing, clutch itself, or slave/master cyl.?:
