Inspecting the Timing Belt
know itís not really a good indicator of its condition, but I want to inspect my TB which the previous owner says was done 7k ago. Is the TB under the casing on top of the engine just to the left (if your facing the engine?). If you pull that bit of casing to the side you can see the belt, mine looks smooth and shiny (if it actually is the TB i'm looking at), is it mean to look that way? I though it would have teeth and grips etc
Also the variator is gone in mine as it sounds like a diesel for the first few minutes after start-up (the previous owner said it was never changed, the Alfa dealer didnít suggest it and the previous owner just knew about oil and belts, didnít have a clue about the variator), itís a bit annoying the way it sounds like a diesel, but other than the sound is there anything to worry about when the variator goes like mine?
Also seeing as there were no replies to my previous thread, all all UK spec Alfas fitted with an alarm as standard? The battery and casing the battery sits into on my car is missing so I can t really check Ė anyone know where to get a replacement battery holder thing and battery thatís not on the web (my nearest Alfa dealer is a long way away). Hopefully if I sort that the alarm should reactivate? Anyone know where the alarm is actually located on the car and if it has tilt sensors?
