A year with a GT
Well it's one year since we brought the GT, 24000 miles on I thought some might be interested in my experience.
After two months with a new seat leon FR i finally could not stand it anymore so went after a new GT. the local dealer was les than useless and finally admitted I would be better off going elsewhere, several other dealers failed to return calls and i ended up at Mangoletsi. After a two hour test drive car was ordered and money paid (lost a fortune on the seat but could not live with it)
collected the GT on 6th Apil 07 and thoroughly enjoyed the drive home. After a few weeks I decided I was not happy with the clutch (heavy and notchy) so returned to mangos for them to take a look, after the 125 mile blag up the M6 it seemed fine to both me and the technician (ain't this always the way), but on return to northampton it was worse than ever so reluctantly I took it straight to the local dealer. it eventually had the clutch replaced under warranty which is no big deal but whilst in the dealer the car was damaged, repairs to the damage were bodged and the usual arguments ensued. In the end I got it sorted and they paid, got a free service and a track day from AR GB so all forgotten.
Other minor niggles i sorted myself (been a motor technician for 25 years), minor water leak into boot, creaking tailgate and rear seat.
I now have a GT with no squeaks or rattles !!
In 24000 miles it has returned 42 to 47 mpg depending on how i drive it, cruises effortlessly at motorway speeds and above with acceptable road and wind noise and can be a blast on a decent A road.
i had new front tyres at 19000 miles but the rears still have 5mm on them.I did the 24000 mile service myself this morning and was very thorough but could find nothing wrong.Nothing has failed or gone wrong since the original clutch issue, and that was just one of those things apart from how the dealer dealt with it.
Only niggles are, paint chips easily (seems common to all modern cars) and the clutch which I still think ought to be lighter.
So to sum up, after one year and 24000 miles apart from the two niggles above I can't think of a car that could replace the GT fo me.
Would I buy another Alfa, well to be honest probably not unless the local dealer is replaced with a compedent dealer.
I will keep the GT for another year (I normally change every twelve months) then look again at a replacement.
So Alfa top marks for the GT but you will and are losing customers due to your dealers.
