Re: I'm starting to wish i had not got a alfa
i really am think i should nave picked a different make of car now, all my worst fears have almost come true, noticed while driving about that at about 1500-2500 rpm there was a nasty resonating noise like a echoey whistle thought it may be a wheel bearing (as at the time only made the noise at about 20 mph) but then as a experiment i dropped it in to neutral and revved it throught that range and then held it at 2000rpm and the noise was there constantly, popped it down to the garage who had a listen to it with a stephiscope type thing and detected that the sound was coming from the CAM Belt area, so it's now booked in for a Cambelt and balancing belt etc change at £341.00p, they said it may be something to do with the AUX belt going starting the problem, but the garage i have booked it in to seem to think that if the AUX belt has gone that i will have damaged the valves etc and i could be looking at a big bill. but all the other garages say (and i have checked with 2) that there is nor much change i would have damaged the valves with the aux belt going. any advice as i don't want to be taken for a mug by the garage it's at and by the same token don't want to drive around with broken valves. the car is running fine except for the slight noise. and to top it all off the hire car company only had a vectra left?
