Some sod got into my car and ripped out the ignition switch / key barrel, after trashing the steering column shrouds and the plastic frame that holds the ignition switch in place.
I can get the barrel back in and can start the car, but the barrel pulls back out on the key when you turn it back to stop and remove the key! No plastic left to hold it - broken into pieces. At least the immobiliser worked
Little switch on ignition for putting parking lights on has been snapped off, otherwise just the plastic that's broken.
I'm hoping I can get some new plastic shrouds from a breakers, but does anyone know what the frame holding the ignition in place is attached to? I'm worried it is part of the steering column framework and will be a b*gger to get at, though haven't had a good look as I haven't seen it in daylight.
Anyone know if refitting the ignition switch is straightforward if I can get the new plastic bits and get at the fixings for them - looks like it should be ?
I'm holding onto the broken bits in case I need to get the glue out and do a "broken chinese vase" repair.
Any help appreciated, thanks.
