Re: motor control system failure & very hot exhaust!
As above, it could be almost anything. Not sure about the temperature thing though, is it just coincidence or perhaps a dodgy connection moving when it gets hot/cold? Interestingly, when I was checking my car, the lambda connectors into the wiring harness (side of radiator) are all taped up and look like they had some soldering iron attention in the past!
Looking back I noticed a hesitation or stutter a couple of times a month or so ago with mine and the MCSF light flashed on for a few seconds, so the coil was obviously starting to fail. If I had got it checked out then, who knows how much a dealer would have charged and possibly not even sussed out the problem? So maybe as Charlie says, the answer is not to worry too much and just continue driving it until the performance goes?
When I was investigating on the forum, it seems it could also have been an injection problem, dodgy electrical connection or one of the many sensors that are dotted about on the camshaft, exhaust etc. The MAF also seems to be pretty unreliable but I think that just knocks off performance rather than highlighting a fault.
Cars are much too complicated for their own good these days! Good luck.
