Rear screen demister

The rear screen demister has not worked on my 2003 156 JTD saloon since I bought it last May, despite the mimic light being on, and the fuse being intact. Is it a monster job to repair, i.e replacement rear window? Any guidance would be gratefully received.

Re: Rear screen demister

you should carefully check the lines and see whether the material (whatever it is called) has come off in places. This would stop the continuity of the circuit and thus the lines would not work.

If there are bits missing, Halfords (and probably others) sell a repair kit with which you fill in the gaps in order to restore continuity.

Mine isnt working either, but my windows are tinted so I have no access to the lines...

Hope this helps

oh, and welcome by the way!

Re: Rear screen demister

Hi & welcome

Start the car, put the heated rear screen on, get a multimeter & check that the 12v feed is actually getting to the terminal on one side of the screen, the terminal on the other side should be grounded to the body somewhere. Look & make sure the contacts are still actually attached to the window too.

Re: Rear screen demister

I have a sportwagon with no rear working heated screen, I note what you say about repairing the lines on the rear screen with a tinted or darkened screen, is it not possible then that this is repairable, due I suppose to the film on the screen. If the screen has not had a added film by an aftermarket darkening system, then surely the process is in the glass mixture, therefore unaffected by that process?
