156 battery

hi all, first time poster.
i've only been driving about 3 years and have little knowledge about any motors.
this morning my 2.0l 156 (2002) wouldn't start. the indicator on battery said it needed topping up (which i did), then indicated it needed charging. i got a jump start and it has started first time since. i am still gonna charge the battery overnight. i think it may be the original battery still on it. any idea on life expextancy of these or where the best (cheapest) place to get a new one would be. i do often do short 4-5 mile trips, but in the last month alone have done 4 250+ mile journeys.
any advise much appreciated.

Re: 156 battery

Hi Paul. Batteries can last a lifetime, or then again can fail after just a couple of years. Any local tyre depot should be able to do a battery test for you and this will diagnose whether there's a cell that's thrown it's hand in. In my experience people spend more time faffing about wondering about alternators and so on when changing the battery is the obvious thing to change. As an aside, there are quite a few posts on here pointing out that the Alfa brain hates a battery that's just a little tired so it's worth keeping it in best order. Hope this helps.
