Re: 147, good idea?
The 12v, lighter engine than the 24v. Have you got bigger tyres on than standard, that makes it read low.
I could get it down to about 28mpg, but taking it easy it would do South Kent to North Yorkshire on 10 gallons of premium fuel. It did do 5 mpg more on the good fuel, but I had to get the special spark plugs with the 4 contacts and get it set up by a good mechanic too. I don't know what he did when the cam belt was changed, but he said it needed adjusting at the same time, and it did make a big difference.
If you go to Europe I found I got better milage at 90mph, than 70mph, but 28mpg and less at 120<.
I did 40,000 mile in mine, and it was great, still going well with 200,000 on the clock, but I couldn't give it away when it needed new suspension on the back and another belt change, so £850 of work on a car worth £300 was a shame. It was tatty, electric things didn't work, but everything you actually needed was absolutely fine, right to the end.
