I think my variator has gone as it exhibits most of the classic symptoms. My cambelts were changed at 35,000 miles but the variator wasn't - I didn't know at the time it should be - cheers Alfa Main Dealership then! (Caledonia in Manchester now gone bust). Now at 41000 miles am I doomed to the noisy rattle on start up or another expensive garage job changing the variator and fairly new cam belt?

Any thoughts?

Re: Variator

An oil change and engine flush has been known to 'cure' a faulty variator for a short time at least.
