156 Spec help??

Hi all! This is my first post, so can I quickly add my name is Dan, I'm from Kent and a massive Alfa fan. When I was young my dad had three Alfasud Ti's in succession (black, white and red ) and also owned an early 1.8 Lusso 156 manual. I usually buy Japanese cars (don't flame me please!) but I've always had a deep affection for Alfas.

Right, after driving a work colleague's 2.4 JTDm recently it got me thinking about how cheap 156s have become and I ended up putting a deposit one. To cut a long story short I am waiting for the seller to get the V5 back as he hadn't long bought it from a friend. Anyway..

I've done some searching and I'd be really grateful if you could confirm the spec please? The seller is advertising it as a 'Veloce', but it's a '98 (R) and I think it's a Sportpack2, what do you think?

red 2.5 V6
6-speed manual
black cloth seats with red Alfa Romeo logo and adjustable leg bolsters (Recaro?)
16in teledial wheels
carbonfibre effect dash
black leather steering wheel
headlight washers

Also, the tailpipe is oval and stainless steel - the seller claims they all came with Ansa exhausts. Is this correct or could it have been added at a later date?

Also, the suspension felt very firm. Am I right in thinking both SP2 and SP3s had lower, stiffer suspension?

Sorry for all the questions and "hello" again!

Re: 156 Spec help??

Hello. Yes, sounds like SP2 if it's got cloth Recaros. The exhaust tips were stainless, not the whole back box and standard make is DESCAM. If it says Ansa, it's aftermarket. Sport Packs had lower and stiffer suspension. The Veloce name replaced the Sport Pack name around 2000'ish.

Re: 156 Spec help??

Thanks Rick!

I've bought the car now. Picked it up last night

Fourth gear crunches which is very annoying as it test-drove perfectly!?!

Just looking at de-cat options now to unleash the noise! Asbo here I come.. ?

Re: 156 Spec help??

your 4th gear crunch could be due to swarf in the gearbox, from what i have read on here.

i think its an easy fix, endplate of gearbox off, remove swarf, replace endplate, drive, but someone else who knows better will probably comment.
