Have not had mine that long so can't say too much about them! But so far so good have only done about 2.5k in it though. I was like you when I came to buy one - worried about all the comments. But I think the main problems are often caused by a faulty battery the sele needs a good battery on it and obviously needs to have been cared for and serviced correctly. They are great cars though mate and very rewarding to drive - mine has all the optional extras - sat nav phone winter pack Bose etc and I love it! Good luck
Thanks AlfaVincent - I'll certainly enquire with the dealership about the battery that's already in there. I guess that full service history is essential to see if there have been any electrical or battery-related failures. Unfortunately the salesman tells me that papers were misplaced when the dealership moved.. He says that they can try to find them - but not likely they will. He otherwise suggests that I directly speak to the Alfa garage who has apparently been the only one servicing it. Can I trust just a verbal "ok" from an Alfa garage though??
As for the frequent oil checks... Dirk, I very much appreciate the input, but I'm probably not disciplined enough to run a weekly oil check - let alone a monthly one. Perhaps that's what scares me most: Alfas seem to require very detailed and attentioned owners - which I am not
While I've worked hard for it, perhaps I don't even deserve to drive such a vehicle: I really am not careful enough.
AlfaVincent: Your options pack sounds exactly like the car that I'm looking at now: the sat nav phone with dial and card reader, the pristine bose system... Sweeeet!
So what is it about this car really? In fact, I personally really don't like red cars. On the way to see it, I was even telling my buddy that the red was so off-putting that we were likely wasting time. But when we arrived, I spotted it immediately and something overcame me... Like I was possessed to walk to it faster. This is the finest red car that I've seen. The black tinted windows give it an even sweeter look! From the outside, it is sleek, smooth and agressive. From the inside, I feel like I'm seated in a jet cockpit. And when you turn the engine on.... Aaaah that engine!
My heart says "YES" and my brain says "High Trouble Potential".
So do I load up on SSpeed oil and hope for the best?
