GT Shudders when started

Especially when starting from cold, the car 'shudders' really quite badly as the engine starts. I was in my mates 'S' vectra the other day and it was a smooth as silk when he started it up. Granted it is a petrol but even for a diesel my GT seems pretty bad.

Is it normal or does somehting sound wrong?

Re: GT Shudders when started

I thought exactly the same....on really cold mornings it feels like its going to jump out through the bonnet

I compared it to my wifes Toyota diesel and my mates A4 diesel and it is definitely louder on startup also.

I have come from driving petrols all my life and thought first it was just me getting used to the diesel, but it seems I am not alone.

The last couple of days its been warmer outside and its not as severe when starting up.

>My other car's a Seat Alhambra TDI and that sounds like a truck when starting. the GT is better than that. you won't get that petrol smoothness from a diesel at low revs due to the high compression ratio and heavier pistons etc, especially when it's cold. 850rpm to my mind is a little slow.

Once warmed up it is pretty good though. Just drive off quickly and enjoy the ride
