Rattling 156 veloce 2l

Just bought my first Alfa. I paid 1250 for it and thought it was a good deal(being abit silly?). It is a 2001 with only 56k on the clock and is in very good condition. One problem tho, took it to my local alfa specialist and they advised me it sounded ruff and thought it may be the big ends aaahhhhhhhhhhhh! Going to buy a re-con engine. All problems aside i have fallen in love with it already.

Engine is tapping at higher revs and is very rattley. Any ideas?

Re: Rattling 156 veloce 2l

if the rattle can be felt as a vibration in the pedals when in higher revs then i would say that it does sound like big ends and a bottom end failure on the way check in the service history on the last cam belt change and check oil type and how frequently given in services i had the rattle myself in my 2.ltr tspark 147 and turned out to be the the shells and crank i drove it until it was dead the engine siezed rock solid and the end of my engine if it has been rebuilt before then best not to again. better a recon engine in it will put your mind at rest at least without fear of happening again ive known people to rebuild and the bottom ends go again costing more and more money i would suggest not driving it until toally sure if its big ends becouse if it is you dont want the engine throwing a rod becouse you wont be able to exchange the engine and cost more money i had white smoke with oil vapour from the rear on revs and engine management light
